February 21 Race Schedule:

5:00—5:15 Contestants sign in at south door, Cherokee City Hall

5:20 Official race pans and pancakes issued to all contestants

5:25 Group Photo of all contestants

REMEMBER, TO COMPETE YOU MUST COMPLY WITH THESE RULES:

1. Race contestants must be female, 18 years of age or older.

2. To compete, ALL contestants must wear the following, clearly visible to the judges:

A. A dress or skirt (clothing may be worn under it for warmth

B. An apron (any length — may be personalized to a team or group)

C. A kerchief (worn on the head)

3. All contestants agree to attend the Shriving Service at St. Paul’s immediately after the race — pans

will be brought forward and awards presented.


Other race rules:

4. Immediately before the race, all contestants will be issued an official pan (bearing your race

number) and pancake that must be carried throughout the race.

5. You will be issued an official race pan and pancake at the starting line.

6. Pre-race group photo will be taken outside the south door of City Hall at 5:25 p.m.

7. Race begins at 5:30 p.m. from City Hall

A. Race course is 415 yards, ending at the top of old “Piety Hill”

B. On the starting bell, all contestants must flip their pancake before running

C. The contestant shall follow the race course to the finish line, must cross the

finish line, then flip the pancake a second time to finish the race.

D. Dropped pancakes may be picked up and returned to the pan without penalty. A

flipped pancake that is dropped will constitute a flip upon return to the pan.

E. A racer must carry no less than half of the issued pancake to the end for a valid finish.

F. Intentional interference with the flip of another contestant shall be chastised.

G. Contestants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing and footwear with the required

running garb.

H. When weather and course conditions make it appropriate, and in the absolute

discretion of the Supervising Vicar of the Race, contestants may be prohibited from

breaking stride and the race conducted as a walk.

8. Rule changes/additions announced at the time of the race shall control. Any challenges or rulings

shall be determined by the Supervising Vicar of the Race, whose decision shall be final.

9. Those failing to use reasonable effort to show respect for fellow contestants, failing to follow the

reasonable directives of race officials or failing to enjoy the event in the spirit intended shall be

appropriately chastised.

10. REMEMBER: Wear suitable footwear and warm clothing under your required race outfit (skirt,

apron & kerchief). The race will be conducted in conditions that may be cold, slippery, and could pose unusual risk of slipping and you compete accepting that risk,
